Director of Operations, UH Population Health

Heather Byrne is the Director of Population Health Operations for University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. In the Population Health Operations role, Heather is responsible for providing the oversight and direction for designing, implementing, and supporting non-clinical population health services for University Hospitals Health System. She collaborates with and engages senior and physician leadership, administration, professional, clinical and other staff throughout the organization to implement population health programs, and promote a culture consistent with the health system’s mission, core values, and standards of conduct. In Heather’s role as Director of Operations, she leads planning, coordinating, implementing, and oversight of operational, financial, and clinical strategies to support the Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Program (BPCI), Strategic Communications and Operations, Data Science and Analytics, Quality and Clinical Transformation, and Clinical Integration Technology.

Heather has 20 years of experience in the health care industry, including managing physician practice teams as well as high performing pediatric clinicians at Rainbow Babies and Children’s hospital. She served as Global Product Manager at STERIS and was responsible for managing the Surgical Solutions Operating Room Integration product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities. In this role, Heather drove solutions set across development teams (Engineering, Regulatory and Quality, and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product contract, and positioning; she developed and implemented company-wide go-to-market plans, and worked with all cross-functional departments to execute while analyzing potential health care partner relationships for product growth. Heather’s clinical background includes Nuclear Medicine technology in which she provided direct patient care for ten years.

Heather served as a Board Trustee for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). In this role, Heather worked closely with the chapter executive director to understand goals and objectives of the chapter while providing guidance, access, and resources to assist in achieving goals. She served as an effective public relations agent who promoted LLS in daily activities and served as a goodwill ambassador for LLS. Heather worked to identify, cultivate, and recruit prospective Board of Trustee members as well as recruiting volunteers to plan, organize, and implement the chapter’s events and mission programs. During her years of service, Heather was nominated as Chair of Patient Advocacy as well as Patient Access and Education; she also teamed with LLS staff to design and implement community education, support, and outreach services, to include strategies to enact healthy lifestyle education programs in the cancer community. The highlight of Heather’s service came from being chosen to represent the Northern Ohio Chapter on LLS Mission Day in Washington, DC (May, 2014). Heather lobbied on Capitol Hill in order to gain sponsorship and support of the Patient Access and Treatment Act, and presented key information and statistics to Congress.

Heather holds a Master of Public Administration degree with concentrations in Health Care Administration as well as Government Management and Relations. She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and possesses an Associate Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
