Dr. Pierre Vigilance is a public health executive who has established cross-sector partnerships to impact health and social outcomes in underserved communities. Drawing on 20+ years experience in community development, addressing social determinants of health, people and operations management, public health strategy, and executive education gained in the non-profit, government, education, and consulting sectors.

Dr. Vigilance was the Health Commissioner for the District of Columbia from 2008-2011 (H1N1, 2009), and from 2002-2008 he served communities in Baltimore as an Assistant Health Commissioner in Baltimore City (SARS, 2003) and Director of the Department of Health in Baltimore County. He departed full-time academic service as the George Washington University School of Public Health’s (GWSPH) first Associate Dean for Practice in July 2019 to dedicate time to his advisory consultancy HealthUp & his podcast, Junctional Thinking.

A member of the Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic Board of Directors; and as an Advisory Board Member of the Millennium Alliance a tech, business, and educational advisory firm. He is also an advisor to civic tech company Seam Social Labs, and the workplace creativity outfit, Innovators Box. He is an alumnus of the National Association of City & County Health Officials and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.

A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins, he currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.
