Larry Bishoff

President, Laurence Bishoff & Associates

Laurence Bishoff is a senior health care consultant with over 30 years’ executive experience leading programs and companies focused on patient care, risk adjustment, and managed care in the Medicare Advantage (MA) field.

In 2006 he founded MARA, a health care analytics company with products and services to improve risk adjusted revenue for Health Plans and physician organizations. The company became a leading developer of clinical algorithms and electronic messaging programs to physicians. Its data mining and messaging software products assist doctors in identifying and documenting overlooked and/or erroneous HCC diagnoses. In early 2011, he merged the company with Matrix Medical Networks, a nationwide market-leading provider of health assessments for Health Plans’ MA members.

From 2000 to 2006, he organized and led Cost Recovery Consultants, a healthcare consulting company, while also founding a Florida-based physician billing company, Laurence Bishoff & Co. Before starting those companies he served as executive vice president of the physician practice division of a publicly held patient care company, Mariner Health. He led Mariner’s acquisition of physician practices, and negotiated joint ventures with doctor’s groups in several states for risk-based MA contracts.

Prior to his Mariner tenure, Mr. Bishoff was an owner and officer of a New England based health care practice management company, a health care executive at MIT, Harvard Community Health Plan (now Harvard-Pilgrim Health) and Harvard University.

A graduate of MIT, he has been an active member of America’s Health Insurance Plans and the Medical Group Management Association. He held a visiting lecturer appointment at the Harvard School of Public Health, was treasurer and president-elect of the American College Health Association, and served as a field consultant to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations’ ambulatory services program for over ten years.
