Lawrence I. Sinoway MD

Distinguished Professor of Medicine Director, Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute; Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute

Dr. Sinoway attended Johns Hopkins University before attending the New Jersey College of Medicine. He was elected to AOA and received his MD degree in 1978. He did his residency in Internal Medicine at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center and Albert Einstein Hospital where he also was a Chief Medical Resident and Cardiology Fellow. In 1984 he was appointed as anAssistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Penn State University College of Medicine. He became anAssociate Professor in1989, receiving tenure in 1991, Professor in 1993,and Distinguished Professor in2009. Dr. Sinoway has been a NIH funded investigator since 1987. He was named an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association in 1992 and was the recipient of a Doris Duke Innovation in Clinical Research Award in 2002. He is currently the Program Director of both a NIH Program Project Grantand Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)Grant. He has published over 200peer-reviewed articles. Heis a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI, elected in 1996). From1996 through 2011 he served as theProgram Director of the NIH funded General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). In 2005 he becamethe inaugural Directorof the newly formed Penn State HeartandVascular Institute. In 2011 he became the inaugural Director of the Penn State NIH funded CTSI.
