David J. Houghton, M.D., M.P.H. earned his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia and his Masters in Public Health in epidemiology at Emory University. He completed his internship, neurology residency, and movement disorders fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After then serving as Assistant Professor and Neurology Residency Program Director at the University of Louisville, Dr. Houghton joined the staff at Ochsner Health in 2012 as Chief of the Division of Movement & Memory Disorders and Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurology. Since 2016, he has also served as the Medical Director of Ochsner Telemedicine - harnessing technology to create unique virtual clinical connections between Ochsner’s providers and patients across the Gulf South. In 2019, his role expanded to also help drive remote patient monitoring as Medical Director of Ochsner Digital Medicine. He is proud to lead the nationally-recognized HDSA Center of Excellence at Ochsner Health, serving Huntington’s Disease patients from across the Gulf South. Dr. Houghton has been awarded System Physician of the Month, “Top 75” Physician, and Neurology Teaching Faculty of the Year. He has further studied with the Health Management Academy Physician Leadership Program in 2018 and Harvard Business School Consortium for Community Health in 2020. Dr. Houghton is board-certified in neurology and his publications have appeared in peer-reviewed journals, an online medical text, a patient resource from the National Parkinson’s Foundation, and a textbook on deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease.
